Colony Counter is not in the App Store yet. Open the web app in Safari

On your iPhone or iPad, open Safari and go to cc.amphur.in.th

Tap Share

Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up). On iPhone it is at the bottom of the screen; on iPad, at the top right.

Add to Home Screen

Scroll down the list, tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add. The Colony Counter icon, named Colonies, appears on your Home Screen.

Open it and count a plate

Open Colony Counter from the Home Screen icon, not from Safari. Tap Count plate, then choose Take Photo or Photo Library. Allow camera access if asked.

Good to know

Keep your data safe. Your photos and counts are stored in the web app on this device only. Safari can delete a website's stored data after a few weeks without use, unless the site was added to the Home Screen, so always open it from the icon, and export a backup from the app's menu now and then.

  • Updates arrive by themselves: close the app completely and open it again to get the newest version (the version is shown under About).
  • Works offline. Open it once with internet; after that it opens and counts with no connection, in the lab or the field. Counting runs on your device: your photos and results are not uploaded. When a new version is out, it updates itself the next time you open it online.
  • Other browsers such as Chrome on iOS 16.4 or later can also add it to the Home Screen from their Share menu, but Safari is the simplest.
  • Camera. The web app uses the iPhone's own camera, so the in-app level, focus and glare guide of the Android app is not shown. Hold the phone level over the plate and avoid reflections.
